Tryout Format Selection Process
We know that tryouts can be a stressful time for athletes and their families. This stress can be significantly alleviated by doing your homework in advance and coming to tryouts with a plan. We encourage those athletes interested in playing for A5 South to also check out other clubs. On the first day of tryouts, a callback list will be posted on-line the evening after the tryouts conclude. Those players will be asked to fill out a form indicating which A5 South team or teams they’ll be willing to accept.
At call-backs, A5 South will offer positions and assemble their teams, where communication is vital. If you are fortunate enough to be offered a spot on an A5 South team, it is very helpful for us to know where you stand. The vast majority of our athletes accept such an offer right away, and when they do this we take them at their word – holding their spot for them and releasing alternates to find a position at another club. If you are not in a position to accept an offer when it is extended, it is important for us to understand your evaluation process as well as the timing of your decision – whether you need to talk with your parents, try out for another club, etc. – so that we can disappoint as few athletes as possible while assembling a competitive team.
