New Tryouts FAQ

Why did tryouts change to July?

From the SRVA; "The Southern Region Board of Directors takes seriously its role to protect the welfare of all its members. We feel that this revised policy to allow earlier tryouts is more aligned with the realities facing the current times. That is, clubs have the independence to operate within their own framework and time schedule, while still abiding by region policies. The Southern Region Board of Directors will continue to encourage our member clubs to conduct responsible tryouts that protect the interests of the athletes by respecting school athletic calendars, to work with other clubs in their immediate area to schedule tryouts that allow the athletes to attend tryouts from as many clubs as they wish, as a courtesy to the players and other clubs provide a 4-day decision window and to respect the commitment policies of the Region."

When are tryouts?

Tryouts will be held after the conclusion of the 2022-23 club season which is the final day of the USAV GJNC.  The first day that the SRVA allows clubs to hold tryouts is for the 2023-2024 season is July 6, 2023.  Please refer to the website for more information about times and locations.

What if I can’t make it to Tryouts?

Please contact us to make arrangements to be evaluated after our scheduled tryouts. Any tryout evaluation will require registration and a $50 fee.

Will there be tryouts in the fall?

If necessary based on team openings or demand, we may schedule a tryout in late August

Will I know what team I made in July?  Am I officially on that team in July?

As in prior years, A5 South will be forming teams at tryouts and will let players know which team they are invited to join at the end of the tryout.  We ask that athletes come to tryouts ready to decide and commit to a team that they are offered.  However, per the SRVA rules, athletes will have a 4-day decision window to select a club if they are offered a spot on a team.

When are Information Meetings for 2023-2024 Club Season?

Information meetings will be held in June.  Please visit the website for dates/times.

When is commitment day?

Teams will be formed at tryouts with official offers from A5 South.  Commitment day will then be 4 days after tryouts for most players, though players are welcome to commit sooner if they choose.   As contracts and club fees/deposits can be signed and paid online, there is no in person event for commitments.

What does training look like between making a team in July and starting practice in October/November?

Voluntary training sessions and workshops will be available (i.e. open gyms, etc) between July and October/November.  A5 South supports middle and high school programs so no practices will be scheduled that conflict with any members of our teams.

When do practices start?

Practices for A5 South will start at different times.  For 14 and younger, the general start time will be around the middle of October.  For U15-U18, practices will start the week following the GHSA state volleyball finals.  Individual teams may start practices sooner if 100% of the players on the team are no longer in season with their school.

When is the initial deposit due?

Initial deposit will be due upon commitment which is 4 days after tryouts.  Families will be able to pay their club bill over time after the payment schedule is established.

When is uniform day?

Uniform day will be announced later.  More details will come from your club director/coach.
