Junior Youth League (Fall Session)

Thursday, September 8, 2022 - Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Mondays and Thursdays 5:30p - 7:30p

We are offering a 3.5-week JUNIOR Youth League program specifically designed for 8-12 yr old (or 3rd-6th grade) girls and boys who:
- Have some volleyball experience but want to keep their skills fresh
- Have not played volleyball in a team setting before
- Do not have volleyball programs at their school or community

This is the perfect program for very young beginners who want to learn more of the competitive aspect of the game and sharpen their individual skills.   No experience necessary, however younger players who have previously played on a club team or have played in a team environment are highly encouraged to register.  This will be a great introduction to volleyball in a team environment as well as an opportunity for players with some experience to continue to stay active, train and compete. This is a great opportunity to get multiple touches on the ball while having fun at the same time. If your child is interested in learning this wonderful sport then this is the program for you.

This program is a 3.5-week session which meets on Mondays and Thursdays. It is a half instructional, half competitive series where the fundamental volleyball skills are reinforced and the game of volleyball is broken into smaller components for maximum ball touches.  Proper form, posture and technique are main focus points.  Drills will develop and emphasize hand-eye coordination and motor skills crucial to this age group.

We focus on fundamental instruction during the first 2 weeks of the session.  Teams will be formed mid-way through the program according to skill groups depending on the make-up of the group.  Once teams have been formed, the first hour will be spent on drill progressions and/or game play scenarios and the second hour will be competitive matches in a timed, round-robin format.  We will focus on proper fundamentals at practice, as well as training all players in all positions. Match play will focus more on learning how to rotate, playing specific positions and understanding court movement rather than wins and losses. We will keep score though!

*Please note our ability to run league matches effectively depends upon the attendance of each complete team. It can be a challenge when participants are not in full attendance. In this case, we will resort to different game-play formats instead of 6v6 team format or may have to move participants on another team *
